Tajik President accelerates rearmament of Tajik army

President Emomali Rahmon instructed the heads of military structures of Tajikistan to speed up the technical re-equipment of the army due to the unstable situation in the region, Sputnik reports.

Rahmon gave such an order during a meeting of the Security Council of Tajikistan.

He also ordered the commissioning of 70 new border facilities on the border with Afghanistan this year.

Including checkpoints under construction, with all the necessary equipment and conditions.

Rahmon, assessing the situation in the world and the region, noted that the issues of countering modern threats, including terrorism and extremism, are becoming increasingly important.

In this regard, Rahmon demanded that the country's law enforcement agencies intensify their work in order to fulfill the requirements of the strategy for countering terrorism and extremism in the country, which is valid from 2021 to 2025.

At the meeting, the head of the State Committee for National Security, Saimumin Yatimov, also made a report on the actual state of affairs with ensuring security in the country.
