There is progress in the issues of delimitation and demarcation of the state border with Kyrgyzstan, said Orif Khojazoda, Chairman of the State Committee for Land Management and Geodesy of Tajikistan.

"The most important thing is mutual understanding between the parties," Khojazoda said at a press conference in Dushanbe on February 15, according to the VB.kg portal.

Within the framework of the government commission on delimitation, demarcation and redemarcation and within the framework of intergovernmental working groups, 7 meetings were held with representatives of Kyrgyzstan, Khojazoda said.

Khojazoda did not disclose the details of the agreements reached, referring to a mutual agreement on non-disclosure of information until the completion of the process. He noted that the work will be continued this year as well.

"Representatives of the commissions will meet both on the territory of Tajikistan and in Kyrgyzstan," Khojazoda said, expressing confidence that the problem would be resolved.

The last meeting of the topographic and legal working groups of the government delegations of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan on the issues of delimitation and demarcation of the state border was held in Bishkek from February 3 to February 9, 2023.

As a result of the meeting, relevant protocols were signed. The next meeting of the working groups is planned to be held in Tajikistan, the date has not yet been determined.

In December 2022, after a meeting of delegations in Batken, it was reported that the design description of the line of the Tajik-Kyrgyz state border, 17.66 km long, was completed.

The length of the border between the two republics is approximately 970 km, the procedures for its demarcation after the collapse of the USSR have not been completed. Currently, the two countries do not have agreements on 460 km of the border.
