The Tajik government has approved an administrative agreement with Russia on pensions that governs the payment process, TASS reports, citing the Tajik government's Social Insurance and Pensions Agency.

"The Government of Tajikistan has approved an agreement between the Agency for Social Insurance and Pensions under the Government of Tajikistan and the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Russia on the implementation of the agreement between Tajikistan and Russia on cooperation in the field of pensions," the report says.

The agreement provides that citizens of Tajikistan and Russia can apply to the government agencies of one of the two countries where they actually live to assign a pension, choose the legislation of the country on the basis of which they will receive a pension. The agreement also regulates the transfer of money for pension payments between countries, including currency conversion, delivery of payments to recipients, return of excess payments, document flow.

Earlier it was noted that the signing of the administrative agreement "corresponds to the national interests" of Tajikistan, since thanks to it, Tajik citizens working in Russia and registered as tax payers will be able to receive pensions under the laws of Russia.

Russia withdrew from the agreement on guarantees of the rights of citizens of the CIS member states in the field of pensions from January 1, 2023. In December 2022, it was reported that new agreements based on the principle of proportionality are currently being concluded, providing for the so-called export of pensions by the state in which pension rights are earned to the state of permanent residence of the citizen. The pension agreement with Tajikistan was ratified in Russia in 2022.
