Tajikistan remained steadfast in its declared position and did not change it after a year and a half of the Taliban in power in Afghanistan, Khayriddin Usmonzoda, director of the Center for Strategic Studies under the President of Tajikistan, said, Asiaplustj.info reports.
Time has shown that the position of Tajikistan is close to the positions of most countries of the world, Usmonzoda said.
Tajikistan has long-standing historical and good-neighbourly relations with Afghanistan, "so it cannot remain indifferent to the events taking place in this country," the director of the Center believes.
"The President of the country stressed that we do not interfere in the events taking place in the neighboring country, but we cannot be indifferent," Khayriddin Usmonzoda said.
The Director of the Center for Contemporary Art emphasized that it is precisely given this moment that Tajikistan cannot stop cooperation with Afghanistan in all areas.
"Tajikistan is interested in our neighboring country being secure, stable and developing. Security cannot be ensured without economic development. The economy has a humanitarian aspect. Therefore, Tajikistan distinguishes between political and economic and humanitarian cooperation. Currently, our cooperation is established in economic and humanitarian direction," Usmonzoda said.
He noted that the position of Tajikistan regarding political events in Afghanistan remained unchanged and is understandable for all countries.
"The creation of an inclusive government with the involvement of all political forces, the observance of the rights and freedoms of all segments of the population of this country, regardless of nationality. This political position of Tajikistan is close to the position of most countries of the world and the correctness of this position is confirmed by time," the director of the Center for Contemporary Art believes.
Tajikistan is the only country in the region that does not have political relations with the Taliban government of Afghanistan, but at the same time, has not stopped the delivery of humanitarian aid through its territory and the sale of electricity to this country.
Other countries in the region, having sent their ambassadors and ministers to Kabul, have established some kind of relationship with the Taliban.
