The Minister of Industry and New Technologies of Tajikistan, Sherali Kabir, stated that the country needs to establish cooperation with the Tatar company "Tatneft" in Russia to launch oil refineries (ORs) in the "Dangara" free economic zone, reports TASS.

Kabir mentioned that one of the key issues in enhancing cooperation between Russia and Tajikistan is improving the production capacity of fuel and lubricants.

"Today we will also show you that there is such an enterprise in the 'Dangara' free economic zone. <...> I believe that through collaboration and the creation of new mechanisms to launch this enterprise jointly with 'Tatneft,' we could make significant progress in this matter," the minister noted.

The capacity of the oil refinery in Dangara, located in the Khatlon region and constructed between 2014 and 2018, is 1.2 million tons of oil per year. However, Tajikistan lacks the necessary volumes of raw materials for the plant to operate fully. Previously, the authorities of Tajikistan held negotiations with other countries to supply crude oil for processing within the country.
