Tajikistan highly values IMF’s contribution to country’s development

At the Presidential Palace of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon received the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, Avesta reports.

During the meeting, issues of cooperation between Tajikistan and the IMF were discussed. "We appreciate the contribution of the International Monetary Fund to the sustainable socio-economic development of our country," emphasized President Emomali Rahmon at the beginning of the meeting.

The parties exchanged views on cooperation in promoting economic reforms, ensuring macroeconomic stability, supporting the balance of payments, maintaining international reserves stability, and improving the living standards of the population.

Key topics of discussion at the meeting included ways to enhance Tajikistan's economy's resilience to the negative impact of external factors, including geopolitical tensions, regional instability, and the consequences of climate change.

For the sustainability of socio-economic development and improvement of the investment climate in Tajikistan, the continuation of economic reforms and the allocation of grant funds were recognized as necessary.

The parties also exchanged views on expanding cooperation with development partners in promising sectors of industry, agriculture, energy, and in strengthening human capital.

Other mutually interesting issues were also discussed at the meeting.

The IMF provides Tajikistan with constant advisory, methodological, and technical assistance. In particular, the Fund assisted in the introduction of the national currency (Tajik ruble) and helped in the development of the tax code.

Overall, the IMF has provided Tajikistan with financial support totaling more than $500 million.
