Tajikistan increases alternative power generation

Tajikistan plans to generate up to 10% of its electricity from renewable sources such as solar and wind by 2030, the Minister of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan, Daler Juma, said, Interfax reports.

Currently, we are working on four projects in collaboration with development partners, ranging from 50 MW to 450 MW in capacity, to be built in the Sughd region. We are still finalizing the technical and economic aspects, and by the end of the year, they aim to secure funding for these projects, the minister says.

Currently, Tajikistan generates up to 98% of its electricity from hydroelectric power plants. According to the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan, the electricity production in the country reached a record level of approximately 21.4 billion kWh in 2022, the highest since the country gained independence.
