Tajikistan inferior to Uzbekistan in integration with EAEU

From an economic perspective, Tajikistan actively leverages the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) platform, which provides it with favorable preferential entry conditions into the common market of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU). This was stated by Dr. Aza Migranyan, a doctor of economic sciences and a leading researcher at the Center for Post-Soviet Studies, as she summed up the results of the meeting of CIS leaders in Bishkek, Ritmeurasia.ru reports.

She reminded that currently Tajikistan has access to labor market preferences. Agreements in this area have been signed by the republic with the EEU countries.

At the same time, Uzbekistan's interaction with the EEU is more productive, as it holds observer status, leading to a high level of cooperation between the Union and the republic.

"Nothing hinders Tajikistan from progressing in this direction, but I understand their somewhat delayed reaction, as the degree of integration is dictated by economic potential," the expert said.

Migranyan noted that Uzbekistan has a stronger economy with a well-represented industrial sector, which Tajikistan cannot boast of.

"Each country chooses the depth of integration and the degree of involvement based on its economic capabilities," she emphasized.

According to her, it is important for Tajikistan to increase economic interaction with the EEU, if only due to the situation with Kyrgyzstan.

"At some point, when the benefits and interests of the EEU align with those of Tajikistan, the question of integration will arise," said Migranyan.
