Cooperation between Iran and Tajikistan is necessary to combat terrorism, said Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri during a meeting with his Tajik counterpart Sharifzadeh in Tehran during the second round of political consultations between Iran and Tajikistan, Eurasia Today reports.

During the negotiations, the parties discussed a wide range of bilateral issues, including strengthening economic relations, promoting cultural and scientific ties, enhancing regional and international cooperation, as well as intensifying interaction between parliamentary opposition groups.

Tajikistan is also ready to cooperate with Iran on the case of the terrorist attack at the Shah Chiragh mausoleum.

Moreover, Iran has significant experience in counterterrorism, particularly in Syria and Iraq. It was through the efforts of the Quds Force that authorities in these countries managed to defeat ISIL.

Today, the Islamic Republic of Iran is seeking to build closer cooperation with its neighbors in various fields, particularly in security. For example, in Tajikistan, an enterprise for the production of Iranian drones has been established since 2022.

It is noteworthy that recently Tajikistan and the United States also signed an agreement to combat terrorism.

Tajikistan's Prosecutor General Yusuf Rahmon, together with Manuel Micaller from the US Department of State, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of counterterrorism.

Under this document, both parties provide each other with private information about individuals to prevent possible movements of terrorists.

According to reports, this act allows controlling the movements of terrorists, arresting them, and holding them accountable through the use of broad technological tools.

It is also worth noting that Tajikistan's authorities are combating terrorism with the assistance of Russia within the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).

The country hosts a Russian military base with 201 troops. The parties regularly conduct military exercises to counter terrorism and extremism.

However, Dushanbe manages to conduct similar exercises under the command of Americans as well. For example, from August 10 to 20, 2022, the "Regional Cooperation - 2022" exercises took place in Tajikistan, organized by the United States Central Command. Armed formations from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Mongolia, and Pakistan also participated in them.
