Tajikistan recorded the highest industrial growth rate among CIS countries in the first half of 2025, according to the country’s Minister of Industry and New Technologies, Sherali Kabir. Speaking at a press conference in Dushanbe, he cited strong state support, improved investment climate, innovation, and the dynamism of local enterprises as key drivers of this growth, Asiaplus.tj reports.

Industrial output between January and June 2025 reached 29.6 billion somoni ($3.1 billion) — a 24% increase compared to the same period in 2024. This outpaced all other CIS countries: Kyrgyzstan (+17.2%), Uzbekistan (+6.6%), Kazakhstan (+6.5%), and Russia (+2.4%).

The extractive sector led industrial production, accounting for 43.1% of the total, followed by energy (17.2%), light industry (16.2%), machinery (8.5%), construction materials (6.1%), and food processing (5.8%). Together, these six sectors made up over 96% of the country's output.

Several industries showed exceptional expansion:

  • Packaging materials: +172%

  • Pharmaceuticals: +161.7%

  • Electrical equipment: +136.3%

  • Rubber and metal products: +129.7%

  • Plastics: +122.6%

  • Paper and cardboard: +118.3%

  • Leather goods: +111.2%

  • Garments: +110.8%

Despite the impressive industrial growth, Tajikistan continues to face a significant trade deficit. In H1 2025, total trade turnover reached $4.73 billion, with exports totaling $955.3 million and imports $3.78 billion — nearly four times higher than exports.

As of July, 2,411 industrial enterprises were operating across the country.
