On 27 November, Dushanbe hosted the presentation of the Global Human Development Report 2025 — a flagship UNDP publication that has shaped global development thinking for more than three decades. The event brought together representatives of government agencies, international organizations, academia and the media, Asiaplus.tj reports.
The launch was timed to coincide with UNDP’s 60th anniversary and the 32nd year of its partnership with Tajikistan. The report’s central theme is “A Matter of Choice: People and Opportunities in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.” It highlights that while AI creates new opportunities, it also deepens inequality, making it necessary to adopt well-designed digital policies, expand access to technology, and invest in education, healthcare and support for young people.
The report notes that Tajikistan’s Human Development Index increased from 0.549 in 1993 to 0.691 in 2023, moving the country into the medium human development category. Children make up a quarter of the population, and around 20% are young people — a demographic trend that makes AI particularly significant for education and skills development. By 2030, the use of AI in healthcare is expected to grow by 45% and in education by 40%.
The event also featured a panel discussion on how AI can be integrated into Tajikistan’s economy and social sectors to improve quality of life and expand access to services.
