In 2023, Tajikistan increased its purchases of petroleum products abroad by 11.6%, or 164.2 thousand tons compared to the 2022 figures. This statement was made by the First Deputy Head of the Antimonopoly Service of Tajikistan, Safarali Kurbonzoda, Avesta reports.
"According to customs data, in 2023, Tajikistan imported 1,413,600 tons of petroleum products worth $892 million at an average price of $631 per ton. This is an increase of 164.2 thousand tons compared to the previous year. The average import price decreased by $98, or 13.4%, compared to January-December of the previous year. Of these, 436.5 thousand tons are diesel fuel, 348.1 thousand tons are gasoline, 411 thousand tons are liquefied gas, and 218 thousand tons are other petroleum products," explained Kurbonzoda.
He added that 63.3% of petroleum products were purchased from Russia, 25.9% from Kazakhstan, 7.4% from Uzbekistan, 2% from Turkmenistan, 0.7% from Belarus, and another 0.7% from other countries. Out of the total amount of petroleum products imported into Tajikistan in 2023, 348 thousand tons were gasoline at an average price of $655 per ton.
According to the agency's data, the price increased by 20% over the year. "In December 2023, the average import price of one ton of gasoline was $655, which increased by $131, or 20%, compared to January of the same year," noted the First Deputy Head of the agency.
The main reasons for the change in fuel prices in the domestic market are the instability of the price of 1 ton of fuel in exporting countries and the introduction of certain obstacles by these countries. Meanwhile, the price of 1 barrel of oil increased from $84 in January to $92 in September 2023.
