In January–September 2025, Tajikistan’s food production — including beverages and tobacco products — reached 8.1 billion somoni, up 12.3% compared to the same period last year, Avesta.tj reported, citing the Agency on Statistics under the President of Tajikistan.

The growth was driven by several key segments: pasta output rose by 26.3%, non-alcoholic beverages by 22.7%, dairy products by 18.5%, confectionery by 10.1%, and meat products by 7.1%. Production of flour increased by 7.5%, while alcoholic beverages rose by 13.5%.

At the same time, mineral water production fell by 11.6%, and the output of sausages, canned goods, and vegetable oil remained nearly unchanged. Despite this, the food industry continues to show some of the fastest growth rates in the national economy.

For comparison, construction materials production rose by 5.5%, metallurgy by 7.5%, textile and apparel by 9.1%, and chemicals by 12%. The pharmaceutical sector led in percentage growth — up 39.5% — though its share in overall industrial output remains modest.

The government’s State Program for the Development of the Food Industry (2020–2025), aimed at modernizing enterprises, expanding agricultural processing, and boosting export potential, is nearing completion this year.

Funding for the program exceeded 568 million somoni, sourced from domestic and foreign investments, bank loans, and enterprises’ own funds. The final stage (2023–2025) targets steady annual output growth of around 7%.

The Tajik government is considering extending the program beyond 2025, given its contribution to food security and national economic growth.
