Turkmen and US foreign offices hold talks

Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov held talks with US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu, Orient reports.

The parties considered a wide range of issues of Turkmen-American cooperation, and also touched upon international and regional issues, including the Afghan problem, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan said.

Diplomats discussed partnership on the C5 + 1 platform, the development of trade and economic ties, noting the importance of intensifying the work of the Turkmen-American Business Council, the report said.

An exchange of views took place on cooperation in the fields of science, education, healthcare and culture, through which a number of joint programs and projects are being implemented.

Attention was paid to environmental issues, including issues of climate change and reduction of methane emissions.

The prospects for the development of contacts in the medical sector were noted. The talks ended with the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the governments of Turkmenistan and the United States on cooperation in the field of healthcare and medical sciences.
