A delegation from Turkmenistan visited the Netherlands and held a series of meetings with local shipbuilding companies, the press service of the Balkan Shipyard reports.
Representatives of the Balkan Shipyard expressed interest in joint construction of dredgers in Turkmenistan and training their personnel.
With the management of the Dutch company De Klop B.V., the delegation from Turkmenbashi discussed the production of an electric-powered dredger.
"This solution may be particularly relevant for Turkmenistan, considering the low cost of electricity, such an approach may be beneficial for our country," the Balkan press service said.
The same issues were discussed with representatives of two other companies, Royal IHC and Damen Shipyards Group.
As a result, it was announced that a CSD 650 dredger will be built at the shipyard in Turkmenistan under the supervision of Damen engineers.
In October 2023, representatives of the Türkmendeňizderýaýollary agency ("Turkmen Maritime and River Routes") already discussed the possibility of dredger construction at the plant in Turkmenistan with the Damen company.
It is also reported that the Korean company "Koryo Shipbuilding Industry Technology Co., Ltd." has transferred its construction technologies to the Balkan, which will increase the capacity of the Turkmen plant from 4 to 5 vessels per year.
The new seaport and shipyard "Balkan" in the city of Turkmenbashi were put into operation in May 2018. Their construction cost $1.5 billion. At that time, it was reported that the capacity of the plant would be enough to build 4-6 vessels per year. So far, not a single one has been built.
