A three-day session of the World Trade Organization (WTO) General Council concluded at the organization’s headquarters in Geneva, with Turkmenistan’s delegation taking an active part in the proceedings. The delegation included officials from the Cabinet of Ministers and the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan, Turkmenportal.com reports.
As an observer, Turkmenistan continues to study the “rules of the game” in global trade. This year’s agenda addressed key issues such as the digital economy and e-commerce, resource management and subsidies, fisheries and agriculture regulations, institutional reforms, and the transformation of the WTO’s structure to meet emerging global challenges.
A practical outcome of the meeting was preparation for the 14th WTO Ministerial Conference (MC14), scheduled for March 26–29, 2026, in Yaoundé, Cameroon. For Turkmenistan, the conference represents a major platform where decisions shaping the future of world trade will be made. The WTO Secretariat has already held detailed briefings for delegations ahead of the forum.
Participation in the General Council allows Turkmenistan to assert its priorities and maintain continuity in negotiations related to its eventual accession to the organization. The General Council serves as the WTO’s highest decision-making body between ministerial conferences, where global trade agreements are shaped and disputes among member states are resolved.
