President Serdar Berdimuhamedov received the Director General of the Olympic Council of Asia and President of the World Aquatics Organization, Husain Al-Musallam, Orient.tm reports.
Expressing his sincere gratitude to the head of state for the time allocated for the meeting, the guest noted that the Olympic Council of Asia highly values Turkmenistan's efforts in developing sports. Husain Al-Musallam also thanked the President for supporting the development of the Olympic movement and preparing world-class athletes.
Welcoming the Director General of the Olympic Council of Asia, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed confidence that this visit would boost the further development of Turkmenistan's cooperation with the Council.
During the meeting, it was emphasized that the development of physical culture and sports, as well as broad international cooperation in this field, are among the priorities of the state policy of Turkmenistan.
Adhering to the high humanitarian principles of the Olympic movement, Turkmenistan advocates expanding regional and international partnerships in sports and takes concrete measures to achieve this goal.
In this regard, the country cooperates with the International Olympic Committee, the Olympic Council of Asia, specialized federations, and other authoritative international organizations, demonstrating Turkmenistan's strong support for sports diplomacy.
Examples of such cooperation include the successful hosting of the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, the international Amul–Hazar 2018 car rally along the ancient Great Silk Road, and the World Weightlifting Championship.
Additionally, the importance of the United Nations General Assembly's adoption of a resolution in 2018, initiated by Turkmenistan, to declare June 3 as "World Bicycle Day" was highlighted.
It was noted that through regularly held international competitions, Turkmenistan effectively promotes the cultural and spiritual values of the Turkmen people, unique national traditions and customs, economic achievements, and successes in science, education, and the arts on a global scale.
The parties also discussed the development of water sports in Turkmenistan, which are widespread worldwide and contribute to fostering physically strong and healthy youth.
At the conclusion of the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed gratitude to the Director General of the Olympic Council of Asia and President of the World Aquatics Organization, Husain Al-Musallam, for his significant personal contribution to developing cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Olympic Council of Asia, as well as for his constant support of Turkmenistan's initiatives in this area. He wished the guest good health and success in his work.
