A technical delegation from Afghanistan’s energy company Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat visited Turkmenistan to discuss a number of energy projects, Kabul Times reported on Monday, citing a statement from the company.
According to the statement, technical teams from both countries are discussing the progress of infrastructure projects, including the 500 kV Turkmenistan–Dasht-e Alwan transmission line and substation, as well as the Argandey substation.
This technical visit is considered a significant step toward the completion and successful operation of vital power transmission projects and is expected to play an important role in improving Afghanistan’s energy infrastructure, the statement said.
The 500-kilovolt transmission line linking Turkmenistan with Afghanistan - specifically the section from Sheberghan to Dasht-e Alwan and further to the Argandey district in Kabul—is crucial for importing up to 1,000 megawatts of electricity from Turkmenistan. This will help reduce the electricity shortage in Kabul and 13 neighboring provinces, Kabul Times noted.
Earlier, Breshna’s press service reported a virtual meeting between the company’s CEO Abdul Bari Omar and officials from Turkmenenergo, during which the Turkmen side invited their Afghan counterparts to visit Turkmenistan on an official visit.
