The 8th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic and Humanitarian Cooperation between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan was held in Baku, reports AzerTAg.
During the meeting, Co-Chair of the Commission and Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan Mikayil Jabbarov emphasized that the bilateral relationship is grounded in a shared historical heritage and mutual trust at the highest level.
Participants discussed future cooperation in the energy, transport, and investment sectors, with particular focus on the development of the East–West and Middle Corridor transport routes. In 2024, over 2 million tons of cargo were transported via these corridors, and by mid-2025, the volume had already reached 1 million tons.
Currently, 75 Turkmen-owned companies operate in various sectors of Azerbaijan’s economy. Both sides expressed interest in increasing this number, especially within industrial parks and the Alat Free Economic Zone.
The meeting concluded with the signing of a protocol outlining plans to expand cooperation in trade, energy, transport, and agriculture. The document was signed by the Commission’s co-chairs: Mikayil Jabbarov and Nokerguly Ataguliyev, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan.
The Turkmen side reaffirmed its commitment to developing mutually beneficial partnerships and invited Azerbaijani entrepreneurs to engage more actively in joint initiatives. Special emphasis was placed on collaborative projects within international transport corridors.
