A delegation from Turkmenistan, led by Deputy Chairman of the State Concern "TurkmenGas" Murad Archayev, participated in a meeting of the Turkmenistan-EU Working Group on Energy in Brussels, the Turkmen Ministry of Foreign Affairs press service reports.
During the meeting, issues of expanding cooperation in the gas sector were discussed, including diversification of routes for the supply of Turkmen natural gas, as well as the development of renewable energy sources and increasing energy efficiency.
The parties explored opportunities for practical cooperation in reducing methane emissions and increasing the use of renewable energy. Turkmenistan provided information on national achievements in the energy sector, the legal framework, efforts to diversify, and commitment to environmentally sound energy measures, including a solar energy project.
The Turkmen delegation also held meetings with the Head of Cabinet of the European Commissioner for Energy, Stefano Grassi, and the Chief Advisor on Energy Diplomacy of the European External Action Service, Tibor Stelbaczky. Discussions covered the historical context of EU-Central Asia relations, Turkmenistan's energy potential, opportunities to increase gas supplies to Europe, various infrastructure projects, and mechanisms for energy cooperation.
Special emphasis was placed on cooperation in the development of renewable energy sources and the reduction of methane emissions. The importance of Turkmenistan's accession to the Global Methane Pledge, announced by the country at the COP28 climate conference in Dubai, was noted.
