Turkmenistan has doubled its natural gas exports to Azerbaijan in the first six months of the current year, according to a report from the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan, Orient.tm reports.

Azerbaijan purchased 732 million cubic meters of Turkmen gas during the reporting period, which is significantly higher than the figure for the same period last year when 292 million cubic meters of gas were purchased from Turkmenistan.

The estimated cost of these purchases is $109.18 million, which is three times higher than the previous year's figure of $31.8 million.

Turkmenistan has remained the largest supplier of natural gas to Azerbaijan since 2022 when a trilateral agreement on swap deliveries was signed between Ashgabat, Baku, and Tehran. The indefinite contract is designed for the supply of 3-4 billion cubic meters of gas per year.

Last year, Azerbaijan imported 857 million cubic meters of gas from Turkmenistan, 93.2 million cubic meters from Russia, and 66 million cubic meters from neighboring Iran.
