Turkmenistan key NATO partner in Central Asia - Stoltenberg

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg noted the role of Turkmenistan as a key partner of the organization in Central Asia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan said, TASS reports.

On September 7, the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Belgium, Sapar Palvanov, presented his credentials to Stoltenberg as head of the mission to NATO. “The NATO Secretary General noted the importance of Turkmenistan’s role as a key partner in Central Asia, in particular in matters of regional stability and security. At the same time, the country’s active activities in providing humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan were emphasized,” the message says.

The parties discussed the development of relations between Turkmenistan and NATO, noted successfully implemented cooperation programs in the educational sector and expressed their readiness to strengthen relations in areas of priority for the parties. The Ambassador highlighted the basic principles of Turkmenistan's foreign policy, based on permanent neutrality. In this regard, he emphasized that the country’s military doctrine is exclusively defensive in nature, confirming the republic’s commitment to strengthening global security, as well as protecting national interests.
