Negotiations between Iran and Turkmenistan regarding gas transit are ongoing, stated Iraq's Minister of Electricity, Ziad Ali Fadel, Hronikatm.com informed.

If an agreement is reached, annual deliveries of Turkmen gas to Iraq could commence this summer, quoted the minister from Iran Oil Gas.

Representatives of both countries signed a protocol outlining the key commercial terms of the gas supply agreement from Turkmenistan to Iraq in November 2023. According to the document, under a swap scheme, 9 billion cubic meters of Turkmen gas will be transported through Iran to Iraq annually for five years.

In January 2024, it was reported that the Iraqi side had already fulfilled all requirements to begin gas imports via the swap arrangement from Turkmenistan. The delay in commencing deliveries is associated with the need to coordinate all conditions with Iran, which serves as the transit country.
