On World Environment Day, the Turkmenistan Pavilion at EXPO 2025 in Osaka hosted a conference titled “Environmental Well-being – A Key Condition for Sustainable Development”, according to Orient.tm.

The event brought together Turkmenistan’s Ambassador to Japan Atadurdy Bayramov, representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan, EXPO staff, and numerous visitors. The Turkmenistan Pavilion is recognized as one of the most vibrant and engaging at EXPO 2025.

Speakers at the event emphasized Turkmenistan’s commitment to implementing environmentally friendly technologies and actively supporting global environmental protection initiatives, with a particular focus on combating climate change.

A key highlight of this commitment was Turkmenistan's accession to the Global Methane Pledge, announced by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov during the 28th UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai in December 2023. The country is actively developing the legal framework needed to support the transition to low-carbon technologies and is working closely with international organizations and partner nations to implement the pledge's objectives.

Cooperation with Japan is seen as especially important, particularly in the areas of green transition and climate monitoring. On April 15, 2025, during President Berdimuhamedov’s official visit to Japan, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Environmental Protection and Chuo University. The agreement focuses on collaboration using greenhouse gas observation satellites (GOSAT) to improve Turkmenistan’s national greenhouse gas inventory and enhance its reporting capacity under the Paris Agreement.
