Turkmenistan’s latest progress in developing climate-resilient transport infrastructure was a key topic at the meeting of the OSCE Economic and Environmental Committee held in Vienna, Orient.tm reports.
Head of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport, Seyitguly Bayseidov, presented the country’s comprehensive approach to sustainable connectivity and modernization of its transport system.
Bayseidov emphasized that Turkmenistan is confidently pursuing its strategy to position itself as a major transit and logistics hub in the Caspian region, integrating digitalization and clean energy into the transport sector. These initiatives are being implemented in line with the country’s National Climate Change Strategy.
Special attention was given to Turkmenistan’s partnership with the OSCE under the project “Promoting the Development of Green Ports.” Through this cooperation, the Turkmenbashi Port became the first port on the eastern Caspian coast to receive the EcoPort international certification, awarded by the European Sea Ports Organization (ESPO). The achievement reflects Turkmenistan’s progress in energy efficiency, wastewater management, emissions reduction, and biodiversity protection.
Bayseidov also reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s commitment to implementing the outcomes of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC3), including the Avaza Political Declaration and the Programme of Action for 2024–2034, which call for more green, smart, and inclusive transport systems.
During the session, Bayseidov held talks with Bakyt Dzhusupov, the OSCE Coordinator of Economic and Environmental Activities. The two discussed prospects for expanding cooperation in green logistics, digital trade systems, and sustainable transport corridors, to be advanced through upcoming OSCE initiatives in 2026.
Turkmenistan’s active participation in the meeting reaffirmed its role as a responsible regional partner contributing to the creation of a safe, innovative, and environmentally sustainable transport future across the OSCE region.
