Following the international conference “The Role of Women in Modern Society: Developing International Cooperation to Achieve Sustainable Development Goals” in Turkmenistan, a package of bilateral agreements was signed with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the UN Population Fund, reports Turkmenportal.com.
In total, 17 documents were concluded, aimed at protecting women’s and children’s rights, promoting gender equality, and developing and strengthening social programs across the country.
The agreements include memorandums of understanding and work plans between the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, ministries, and state committees with the UNICEF representation and the UN Population Fund. They outline programs for education, social protection, sports, and justice, as well as measures to strengthen gender equality mechanisms. These initiatives cover the period 2026–2030, providing a long-term foundation for advancing the rights of women and children.
The agreements aim to enhance the effectiveness of government initiatives, support vulnerable groups, and strengthen collaboration with international organizations. Planned projects include modernizing information systems with demographic considerations, expanding youth sports programs, improving children’s access to education, and raising the quality of social services.
The documents also establish mechanisms for monitoring and evaluating program implementation, ensuring timely adjustments and accountability. Signing these agreements paves the way for broader international cooperation, reinforcing social stability and contributing to Turkmenistan’s sustainable development goals.
Overall, the agreements create a solid platform for long-term collaboration between Turkmenistan and international organizations, aimed at improving living standards, protecting vulnerable populations, and building an inclusive society that respects the rights of every woman and child.
