President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and head of the presidential administration of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov discussed bilateral relations in Ashgabat and raised the issue of supplying additional volumes of gas to Uzbekistan, the Turkmenistan Today agency reported.
The parties noted that in recent years, mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation between the two countries has reached a qualitatively new level. This is entirely facilitated by the mutual understanding and openness inherent in interstate relations, which makes it possible to consistently develop a productive partnership in a wide range of areas.
The priority area of bilateral partnership is the trade and economic sphere. In this context, the need to maintain the positive dynamics of trade turnover, the implementation of joint projects in such sectors as industry, transport, energy, and agriculture was noted.
As a result of the negotiations, the parties agreed and signed a contract to supply Uzbekistan with an additional 20 million cubic meters of gas per day (a total of 1.5 billion cubic meters in 3 months).
If this project is implemented, then the gas problem that arose in Uzbekistan this winter can be completely resolved.
