A large-scale program of deep-water inspection of oil and gas infrastructure is starting on the Turkmen shelf of the Caspian Sea. Geosonic from the UAE has received a contract to survey more than 200 km of offshore pipelines, Orient.tm reports.
The project will use remotely operated underwater vehicles, geophysical monitoring of the seabed and diagnostics of cathodic protection systems to assess the technical condition of pipelines and prevent accidents.
The program is aimed at identifying hidden defects, monitoring the stability of underwater structures and increasing the reliability of hydrocarbon transportation. The project is being implemented against the background of expanding cooperation between Turkmenistan and Emirati companies in the energy sector of the Caspian Sea.
Analytical comment
Conducting a comprehensive inspection of underwater infrastructure is of strategic importance for Turkmenistan, whose economy largely depends on the export of natural gas and the development of the oil and gas industry. The use of modern digital technologies and robotic systems allows us to move from eliminating the consequences of accidents to preventing them, reducing operational and environmental risks.
The implementation of the project also reflects the growth of investments from companies from the UAE and their participation in the development of the Turkmen shelf. In the context of changing levels of the Caspian Sea and increasing requirements for environmental safety, such projects are becoming an important element in ensuring stable hydrocarbon production, attracting foreign investment and strengthening the energy security of the region.
