At the international conference “Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan – 2025” in Ashgabat, new projections for the development of the Galkynysh gas field were presented, indicating that full implementation of all planned phases could bring annual gross gas production to nearly 200 billion cubic meters, Turkmenportal.com reports.

According to Dr. Irina Luryeva, head of the Galkynysh development laboratory at the Natural Gas Research Institute of the Turkmengaz State Concern, the field is currently undergoing pilot-industrial operation of the first of seven planned development stages. The current production well stock includes 52 active wells, with 7 more being prepared for connection and 8 under active drilling. The average design flow rate per well is 1.5 million cubic meters per day, while the reservoir’s potential allows rates of up to 3 million cubic meters per day.

In 2022, three wells capable of maintaining the maximum flow rate of 3 million cubic meters per day were commissioned. According to forecasts developed jointly with GaffneyCline experts, each stage of gas extraction is expected to sustain stable production for over 30 years.

The phased development strategy for Galkynysh aims to gradually increase gas extraction rates while ensuring optimal allocation of investment resources. The upcoming stages—second, third, and fourth—are already in preparation. As geological and operational data accumulate, the geological and hydrodynamic model of the field will be updated to improve efficiency assessments.

Particular emphasis is placed on environmental sustainability, including the management and utilization of acidic gases and CO₂. Plans are being considered for CO₂ reinjection into aquifers and depleted reservoirs in nearby fields to minimize the environmental impact of production activities.
