The GDP growth in Turkmenistan is expected to reach 5.9% in 2024, according to the United Nations' forecast. This represents the second-highest indicator among Central Asian countries after Uzbekistan, where the projected economic growth is 6.0%, Eurasiatoday reports.
In turn, in 2025, the Turkmen economy is also projected to demonstrate an increase of 6.0%. These figures are documented in the annual review of the United Nations, prepared by the Department of Economic and Social Affairs, titled "World Economic Situation and Prospects."
Based on preliminary statistics, Turkmenistan's GDP showed growth of 6.3% during the period from January to November 2023.
The primary direction of gas exports was to China, with commodity flows also directed to Russia, Azerbaijan, and Uzbekistan.
During the reporting period, there was an increase in natural gas production by 7.6% compared to the same period of the previous year, and its export volumes grew by 13.8%.
Moreover, Ashgabat supplies electricity to Afghanistan, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan. During the reporting period, electricity production increased by 2.7%.
Turkmenistan also serves as an exporter of petroleum products, polymers, synthetic gasoline, and textile products.
