Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan have completed the bilateral implementation of the necessary procedures for the entry into force of the free trade agreements signed in July 2024, the press service of the CIS Executive Committee reports.
"Starting from February 25, 2025, a free trade regime has been introduced between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan," the statement reads.
As a result of this regime, customs duties on goods produced in both countries have been abolished, with the exception of certain types of products. Existing restrictions on mutual trade have been removed, and trade procedures have been simplified.
It is specified that customs duties on imports to Turkmenistan have been eliminated, particularly on local cement products (100%), textiles (50%), furniture (50%), glassware (50%), water heaters (15%), plastic and polypropylene products (10%), sausages and meat products ($2 per kg), and cottonseed oil ($1 per kg).
It is emphasized that the implementation of the duty-free trade regime will provide a foundation for increasing mutual trade turnover between the two countries by expanding investment cooperation and developing industrial collaboration.
It is noted that in 2024, the trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan amounted to $1.14 billion, reflecting a 5.5% increase compared to 2023.
