The authorities of Uzbekistan are persistently reviving the traditions of sericulture on a new industrial and organizational basis. 74 sericulture clusters and 11 grain harvesting enterprises have been created. The area of mulberry plantations increased from 40 thousand to 55 thousand hectares. As a result, the volume of cocoon production increased by 2.5 times, and the export of silk products by 3 times.
During his trip to the Bukhara region, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev specially planned a visit to the Gijduvon Ipak Tola silkworm enterprise. Here he inspected the sericulture farm and the harvest of cocoons, the press service of the President of Uzbekistan said in a statement.
The enterprise has established a cluster system and has created the capacity to produce 48 tons of raw silk and 28 tons of silk wool per year. The cluster includes the Gijduvan and Shafirkan districts, where 2.3 million mulberry seedlings were planted last year for food supply. In two districts, 28 thousand people were employed.
The company completely processes the harvested cocoons. This year the crop was harvested twice, producing 842 tons of cocoons. This made it possible to produce products worth 104 billion soums and export more than $4 million.
President Mirziyoyev emphasized the need to introduce scientific achievements into the activities of clusters. Instructions were given to train silkworm breeders in exemplary clusters and disseminate advanced technologies.
