President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held talks in Beijing with Shen Yanfen, Chairman of China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), Gazeta.uz reported.
CNNC is China’s largest state-owned enterprise in the field of civilian nuclear programs, implementing the full cycle of projects — from uranium exploration and enrichment to the construction of nuclear power plants both domestically and abroad.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed promising areas of cooperation in Uzbekistan. Particular attention was paid to technology transfer, the development of uranium deposits, geological exploration of prospective sites, and expanding cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
Uzbekistan and CNNC already have a record of collaboration. In 2023, the company and Uzbekistan’s state enterprise Navoiuran signed a memorandum of strategic cooperation in the uranium industry. In 2024, discussions focused on the possible application of China’s small modular reactors in Uzbekistan, as well as expanding uranium mining and processing capacities.
In spring 2025, a delegation from Uzatom held talks with CNNC, Rosatom, and Shanghai Electric on turbine supplies and equipment adaptation for Uzbekistan’s planned nuclear power plant.
Earlier this year, in June, CNNC was selected to lead an international consortium for the construction of a second nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan, while Russia’s Rosatom was awarded the contract for the country’s first nuclear facility.
