Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev chaired a meeting on the economic results of the first nine months of 2023, expected year-end figures, and macroeconomic forecasts for 2024, Gazeta.uz reports.
During the meeting, it was stated that for the period of January to September 2023, Uzbekistan's economy grew by 5.8%. Industrial growth amounted to 5.7%, agriculture at 4.1%, and the service sector at 12.1%.
Exports increased by 23.5% to $17.7 billion. Investments totaling 226.6 trillion UZS were channeled into various sectors and regions, marking an 11.8% increase compared to the same period in 2022.
By the end of the year, it is expected that the GDP will grow by at least 5.6%. President Mirziyoyev emphasized that the complex and uncertain global situation has a negative impact on the economy. Therefore, it is crucial to leverage internal opportunities for continued sustainable economic growth.
Mirziyoyev instructed the Uzbekistan government to thoroughly develop the economic program for 2024 with a focus on achieving the objectives outlined in the "Uzbekistan 2030" strategy adopted in September 2023. He stressed the need to intensify reforms in the transport, water, and utility sectors while paying special attention to supporting the population and businesses.
