Uzbekistan increased foreign trade turnover by more than 10%

In January-February 2024, Uzbekistan's foreign trade turnover grew by 10.5% and amounted to $9.9 billion, Podrobno.uz reports.

According to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan, exports amounted to $3.6 billion (an increase of 13.6%), while imports were $6.2 billion (+8.7%).

The largest volume of foreign trade turnover was recorded with China (+21.5%), Russia (+17.8%), Kazakhstan (+5.9%), Turkey (+4.4%), and South Korea (+3.7%).

In particular, during January-February 2024, Uzbekistan's farmers exported 251.2 thousand tons of fruit and vegetable products (an increase of 1.9 times, or 115.6 thousand tons). The main export markets for fruit and vegetable products were Pakistan (26.6%), Russia (26.1%), Kazakhstan (9.1%), and China (9.0%).

Export of IT services is also growing in Uzbekistan. The country's strategy until 2030 envisages increasing the export volume in the IT industry to $5 billion.

According to the report of the Uzbekistan State Statistics Agency, in 2023, the volume of Uzbekistan's foreign trade increased by 23.9% and amounted to $62.56 billion.

In 2023, exports increased by 23.8% and amounted to $24.42 billion, while imports grew slightly faster (+24%), remaining significantly higher at $38.14 billion. The negative balance increased by $2.68 billion compared to the previous year, reaching $13.71 billion.

Uzbekistan's sales of gold abroad stopped in December. The annual revenue from the export of precious metal reached $8.15 billion, nearly doubling the figure for 2022.

In 2023, China became Uzbekistan's main trading partner, with bilateral trade turnover amounting to $13.72 billion (21.9% of the total). China accounted for over a quarter of all imports, or $11.26 billion.

Russia, with $9.88 billion (15.8%), is in second place, maintaining its position as Uzbekistan's main export market with $3.3 billion. Kazakhstan ($4.39 billion), Turkey ($3.09 billion), and South Korea ($2.34 billion) also made it to the top five partners.
