The energy crisis in Uzbekistan this winter forced the country's authorities to pay attention to the need to use all available fuel resources.

Due to the shortage of gas and electricity in the republic, it was decided to pay closer attention to coal. According to estimates, its reserves in Uzbekistan amount to about 2 billion tons. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev set the task of effectively using this potential and consistently increasing production volumes.

Over the past five years, the production of this raw material has increased from 4 million tons to 5.3 million tons per year. But not all reserves are used yet. Thus, this year the project of modernization of the joint-stock company "Shargunkumir" will be completed. This will make it possible to extract fuel by 900,000 tons more. Thus, in the coming years, the volume of coal production in Uzbekistan will exceed 6 million tons.

President Mirziyoyev pointed to the possibility of further expanding the production of high-quality coal through the development of the Shargun and Baysun deposits. The need to attract investors to the development of deposits and the implementation of new projects was emphasized.
