Two solar power plants in the Navoi and Samarkand regions of Uzbekistan have generated over 0.43 billion kWh of electricity, Dunyo reports.

This would be enough to provide for about 145,000 households during the year, the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan said in a statement.

As a result, 127 million cubic meters of natural gas were saved, emissions of 173 thousand tons of harmful gases into the atmosphere were prevented.

This is especially important against the backdrop of the energy crisis that the country faced at the end of last year.

Currently, about 90% of all electricity in Uzbekistan is generated by thermal power plants, of which about 85% run on natural gas.

According to Deputy Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan Khodzhaev, power outages were caused precisely by a shortage of fuel at local power plants. In this regard, Uzbekistan was forced to completely stop the export of natural gas and electricity and increase energy imports.
