The interim government of Afghanistan has granted Uzbek companies a license to conduct geological exploration and extract hydrocarbons, Uzbekistan’s Minister of Energy Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov said in an interview with the national TV channel, Gazeta.uz reports.

He recalled that on September 14, work began on developing the Tuti-Maidan gas field, implemented by Eriell KAM under a 25-year contract. The minister noted that the project would benefit both countries and could be expanded based on its results.

Mirzamakhmudov emphasized that peace and infrastructure development in Afghanistan would provide Uzbekistan with the shortest route to the world’s oceans and create new opportunities for economic growth. Stability in Afghanistan, he said, is a strategic goal for the entire region.

He also highlighted the friendly attitude of the Afghan people toward Uzbekistan, conveying Vice Prime Minister Mullah Baradar’s words of gratitude to the President of Uzbekistan.

Earlier, both sides launched $250 million worth of joint energy projects, including the construction of the Surkhan–Pul-i-Khumri power line and substations, expected to be completed by April 1, 2027.
