The Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan has approved a decree on the introduction of the "Religious Tolerance" breastplate.
This award can be received by state and public figures, specialists, prominent representatives of the religious and public spheres, employees of government organizations and NGOs, representatives of international organizations, diplomatic missions, foreign public figures, and scholars, according to Nova24.uz.
Foreigners and stateless individuals can also receive the breastplate. Selected candidates will be awarded annually on November 16th, International Day for Tolerance. In addition to the breastplate, awardees will receive a cash prize of 4 BCR (1.32 million soms or approximately $120).
Candidates will be evaluated based on their work over the past 3 years in improving the efficiency of the religious education sector, ensuring freedom of conscience among the population, or strengthening interreligious and interfaith harmony.
Prior to this, Shavkat Mirziyoyev proposed the idea of establishing a Center for Interreligious Dialogue and Tolerance in Uzbekistan and hosting an international conference on "Islam: Religion of Peace and Good."
