The Asian Development Bank is allocating $170 million for an electric transport development program in Uzbekistan, UzA news agency reports.
Mamanbai Omarov, the First Deputy Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan, discussed Uzbekistan's participation in the "Electric Mobility Program" with representatives of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), which is implemented by the United Nations Green Climate Fund in seven countries, according to the announcement.
Within the framework of this program, $105 million will be provided in the form of a loan, and $65 million will be provided as a grant. These funds will be directed towards removing barriers to the popularization of commercial electric vehicles. The goals also include establishing an electric bus fleet and auxiliary infrastructure, improving the public transport system, and promoting electric vehicles.
The population of Uzbekistan has reached 36 million people, with the city of Tashkent exceeding 3 million residents. The number of public transport vehicles has also increased. However, air pollution in cities, including Tashkent, due to automotive traffic, has become a significant issue that requires reform.
