Uzbekistan to host UNWTO General Assembly for first time

Uzbekistan will host the 25th anniversary session of the General Assembly of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), which will take place from October 16 to 20, 2023, in Samarkand, Akchabar reports.

The forum will bring together leaders of government agencies in the field of tourism, international organizations, and representatives of the tourism industry from around 160 countries worldwide.

The arrival of leaders of tourism organizations and authorities from countries such as Saudi Arabia, Albania, Azerbaijan, the Bahamas, Bahrain, Guatemala, Haiti, Ivory Coast, Indonesia, Monaco, Niger, Panama, Portugal, Sierra Leone, Ukraine, Uruguay, and Yemen is expected in Samarkand.

Uzbekistan has been accepted into the committee responsible for the powers of the executive council of UNWTO for the next term from 2023 to 2027. This means that Uzbekistan has been entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring the authenticity and adherence to the principles of important decisions and documents adopted by the executive council of UNWTO.

This trust placed in Uzbekistan on the international level not only demonstrates the country's strong position in the global tourism market but also underscores the effectiveness of its activities in international relations.

Hosting the General Assembly session in Uzbekistan opens up new opportunities to enhance the country's prestige on the international stage, further expand cooperation with international organizations, and promote its cultural and tourism potential.

It is worth noting that Uzbekistan is hosting guests for the UNWTO session for the first time in its history, which is considered a significant event within the framework of the United Nations General Assembly. The session is held once every two years.
