The Ministry of Economy of Uzbekistan is sign an agreement with the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for $400 million to improve the efficiency of government agencies. The relevant instruction was published on the Lex.uz website.
At the direction of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the Ministry of Economy of Uzbekistan must sign an agreement with the World Bank for $250 million and with the Asian Development Bank for $150 million by September 1, 2025, for the implementation of a project aimed at improving the efficiency of government agencies and the sustainability of cities.
The funds will be allocated for the accelerated development of 16 districts and cities. In addition, 1 trillion soms (approximately $77 million) will be allocated from the state budget to finance social and infrastructure projects that contribute to economic growth. Special attention will be given to initiatives involving foreign partners.
The project envisions a 7-8% growth in industrial production, a 4-5% growth in the agricultural sector, and a 15-17% growth in market services. The goal is also to reduce the unemployment rate by 4-5%.
By July 1, 2025, updated master plans for the districts and cities included in the program are to be approved, designating areas for renovation, reconstruction, and conservation. As part of the project, administrative buildings for local government agencies, public service centers, and other structures will also be built.
In addition, auctions will be held in 14 districts for agricultural investors for vacant land plots.
