The World Bank is ready to allocate $500 million for the construction of the Kambaratinskaya HPP-1 in Kyrgyzstan, which is being built on the Naryn River, stated the Minister of Energy of Kyrgyzstan, Taalaibek Ibraev, Economist.kg reports.
Ibraev recalled that the development institute had previously allocated funds to update the technical and economic feasibility study of the Kambaratinskaya HPP-1 project. The feasibility study was prepared in 2014 by a Canadian company, which necessitated its update.
"We held a competition involving 14 companies. Three companies were selected from them. On March 11, we will open the financial proposals and determine the contractor for the feasibility study. The World Bank has expressed readiness to provide $500 million for the construction of the Kambaratinskaya HPP-1," said Taalaibek Ibraev.
He also added that after updating the feasibility study, the project cost of constructing Kambar-Ata-1 will be known. In 2014, it was estimated at $2.9 billion. According to the calculations of the Ministry of Energy of Kyrgyzstan, the updated project cost will be $4-4.5 billion.
The Kambaratinskaya HPP-1 is a hydroelectric power station under construction in Kyrgyzstan on the Naryn River, in the Toktogul district of the Jalal-Abad region.
It is part of the Naryn-Syr Darya cascade of hydroelectric power stations, serving as its upper stage, located 14 km upstream from the Kambaratinskaya HPP-2.
Upon completion of the construction, the Kambaratinskaya HPP-1 will become one of the largest hydroelectric power stations in Central Asia.
The station is being constructed by JSC "Electric Stations," and the first hydro unit is planned to be commissioned in 2028.
