The new terminal facilities of the Kazakh port of Kuryk on the Caspian Sea are being put into operation. This was announced at a meeting of the operational working group on the development of transboundary hubs in the government, chaired by the Vice Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Serik Zhumangarin, the Ministry of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan announced.

At the end of September 2023, the first shipment of cargo was received at the general cargo terminal of the multi-functional marine terminal (MFT) "Sarzha" in the port of Kuryk in the Mangystau region. By the end of October, the planned shipment of a vessel loaded with metal with a total weight of 4,500 tons was expected.

The construction project of the MFT "Sarzha" in the port of Kuryk has been underway for several years and is carried out by the Kazakh development company SEMURG INVEST. All land works have been completed, access railway tracks, two berths, and a general cargo terminal have been built. As part of the project, several terminals will be constructed (grain, general cargo, bulk cargo, and a universal terminal), as well as a transport and logistics complex.

As noted during the meeting by Nurzhan Marabayev, the CEO of SEMURG INVEST LLP, the completion of the construction of all terminals of the MFT "Sarzha" by 2030 will increase the throughput capacity of the Middle Corridor by 10 million tons per year.

Simultaneously, work is in progress on the construction of a container hub at the Aktau seaport, which is part of the Caspian Transport and Logistics Hub. It will be created based on the special economic zone "MORPORT Aktau," where a land plot of 19 hectares has been reserved for these purposes. The construction is planned to be completed in the second quarter of 2025. The launch of this facility will facilitate the intensification of cargo transportation along the Trans-Caspian international transport route, redirecting some transit cargo from China to Europe, while concurrently developing the container line "Turkmenbashi - Aktau - China."
