Women's unemployment exceeds men's in Kazakhstan

The number of unemployed people in Kazakhstan, in the third quarter of 2022 amounted to 450.3 thousand people, which is 0.1% less compared to the same period in 2021, Kazinform reports.

The number of unemployed in Kazakhstan has been declining for the second year in a row, while compared to the third quarter of 2019, the figure is still higher by 1.9%, according to a message on the Energyprom.kz website.

The unemployment rate in the country did not change over the year, amounting to 4.9% in the third quarter of 2022, while in the corresponding period of 2020 the figure reached 5%, and in the third quarter of 2019 it was 4.8%.

The unemployment rate in the cities of Kazakhstan is higher than in the villages: 4.9% versus 4.8%. At the same time, compared with the previous year, the unemployment rate in cities decreased, while in villages, on the contrary, it increased.

In terms of gender, the female unemployment rate is significantly higher than the male one: 5.7% versus 4.1%, and this is the largest gap since 2012. A year earlier, the female unemployment rate was 5.5%, while the male unemployment rate was 4.3%.

The number of unemployed women in the country increased by 4.3% over the year, reaching 257.4 thousand people in the third quarter of 2022, while the number of unemployed men decreased by 5.5%, to 192.9 thousand people.
