World Bank Forecasts 9.6% Economic Growth in Kyrgyzstan in 2026

The World Bank forecast Kyrgyzstan's economic growth at 9.6% by the end of 2026, despite a 12% decline in remittances from Russia in the first half of the year. This was stated in the World Bank's October Europe and Central Asia Economic Update, Economist.kg reports.

According to the financial institution, the key drivers of this growth were a record 15.8% increase in real wages and a nearly 60% jump in fixed capital investment, driven by the implementation of strategic infrastructure projects—the Kambarata-Ata Hydroelectric Power Station-1 and the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan Railway.

These data demonstrate a qualitative transformation in Kyrgyzstan's economic growth structure. The transition from a vulnerable model based primarily on private consumption and remittances to an investment-driven development model fueled by public investment in energy and transport provides the country with short-term stability and a leading position in wage growth in the EAEU region.

Despite optimistic macroeconomic indicators, Bishkek remains faced with serious structural challenges. High levels of informal employment (over 60% in the private sector) and continued dependence on imported Russian petroleum products create vulnerability to external shocks. To maintain projected growth rates in 2027–2028, the government must convert public infrastructure spending into the creation of high-productivity jobs in the formal sector, stimulating private capital inflows.
