President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks in Xi'an, the press service of the President of Uzbekistan reports.
Xi Jinping warmly welcomed President Mirziyoyev, cordially congratulated him on the success of the constitutional referendum, and wished him great success in the upcoming presidential elections in Uzbekistan.
Mirziyoyev invited the head of China to visit Uzbekistan, Xi Jinping gratefully accepted the invitation.
Earlier it was reported that Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced early presidential elections. The current president of Uzbekistan will lose three and a half years of his current term. Elections are scheduled for July 9, 2023.
Mirziyoyev took part in the China-Central Asia summit, which took place in the city of Xi'an on May 18-19, in which the heads of all states of Central Asia took part.
As a result of negotiations between the official delegations of Uzbekistan and China, a solid list of documents was signed. Mirziyoyev and Xi Jinping signed a Joint Statement and adopted the Program for the Development of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in a New Era between Uzbekistan and China for 2023-2027.
