It is necessary to increase the effectiveness of cooperation between the member countries of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) in the political, military and military-technical spheres, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon said in Dushanbe at a meeting with CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov.

The head of Tajikistan "emphasized the relevance of building up cooperation in the political dimension, expanding the international activities of the CSTO, increasing the effectiveness of military, military-technical and military-economic cooperation," the press service of the President of Tajikistan said in a statement.

He also stressed the need to strengthen the comprehensive work in the CSTO to combat terrorism and manifestations of radicalism.

The parties also exchanged views on the situation in Afghanistan.

In October last year, Rahmon and the former Secretary General of the organization, Stanislav Zas, during a meeting, noting the difficult situation in the region, spoke in favor of strengthening the protection of the border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan.
