Construction of China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway to begin in October 2024

President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, during a working trip to Osh on May 6, announced that construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway will begin in October 2024, Economist.kg reports.

“Now Kyrgyzstan is a dead-end state in terms of logistics,” the head of state noted, emphasizing that the country has to go out into the world via the railways of Kazakhstan and Russia. – When the railway is built, we will be able to go out into the world. This will be our own path."
According to him, after completion of construction, Kyrgyzstan will become a transit country, which will open up new opportunities for economic development.

“Our economy will grow year after year. The main thing is that there is peace. There will be discoveries. Construction of the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway is planned to begin in October. We will become a transit country for the world. Let's enter the world market. We will reach the sea through the railway,” Japarov expressed confidence.

In March of this year, Japarov reported that the parties “reached a common understanding on the mechanism for implementing the project” of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway.

The total cost of construction of the railway was previously announced - $5.1 bln.
