European Investment Bank to allocate €150 mln to Kyrgyzstan

The European Investment Bank (EIB) will allocate €150 million to finance projects in the transport sector of Kyrgyzstan, the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan reports.

The signing of the memorandum took place within the framework of the first Global Gateway Investors Forum on sustainable transport connections between Central Asia and the European Union.

During the meeting with representatives of the European Union, the Deputy Head of the Kyrgyz government, Bakyt Torobaev, emphasized the important role of Kyrgyzstan in the system of transport corridors connecting Europe and Asia. He also listed the prospects for the strategic project of building the railway China – Kyrgyzstan – Uzbekistan.

Executive Vice President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis highlighted the active cooperation in the transport sector with the countries of Central Asia.

In addition, Bakyt Torobaev discussed cooperation issues with the Vice President of the European Commission, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell.

The parties addressed current matters of bilateral interaction with a focus on the development of transport links, transit potential, and trade.

Torobaev raised the issue of removing Kyrgyzstan's airlines from the EU flight safety list.
